Yandex says to buy rights for Bookmate’s tech platform in CIS

MOSCOW, Jul 1 (PRIME) -- Russian Internet company Yandex will acquire the rights to use the technological platform of Bookmate, a service to read and listen to books on subscription, in the CIS, a company spokesperson told PRIME late on Thursday.

“Over the recent year, the number of subscribers listening to audio books on Yandex Music has spiked by five times. Together with Bookmate, we plan to develop and improve our books scenarios by adding new options to them – for example, reading of electronic books and comics,” the spokesperson said.

Media earlier reported that some members of Bookmate’s team would join Yandex to assist in introducing developments in the company’s infrastructure.
